The Adventure is in Pre-Production

Welcome to my new blog that will run right through until Christmas 2010.  It's all based around my experience of directing a new medical drama series called SAINTS that is being shot on location in Nairobi, Kenya.  This is a world-class production that will be distributed all over the world.

I am thrilled to announce that my flight leaves Vancouver on September 3, 2010 and I will arrive in Nairobi on September 5, 2010.  It includes a 16 hour flight from San Francisco to Dubai.  Wow!  I could watch 8 movies!  Can you imagine what my eyeballs would look like after that?  At least it's a very decent airline, Emirates.  :-)  There are three legs to this journey - 2 hours to San Francisco, 16 hours to Dubai (and overnight stay there) and 5 hours to Nairobi.

The pre-production machine is now fired up and rolling. For all of you who have felt this phenomenon, you know what I mean when I say NOTHING can stop it!

The first six, hour-long episodes are in their second draft.  The budget has been secured and figured out.  The hospital location has been secured.  The cinematographer has been hired out of South Africa, Sean O'Sullivan.  Crew will be hired in a week or so. Casting starts on the 6th of September.  The camera is slated to roll on the 20th.

My son, Harrison, is flying out with me and will be put to work as a runner (getting me coffee and stuff :-) and then move on up to even helping out the camera department.  And Diana Pavlovska is going to play a lead character in the series, Dr. Katherine Stewart with a young man (9 almost 10) from Calgary, Grayson, playing her son, Cody Stewart.

Here are some still photos of the trailer we shot for this series back in March of this year.

I will be blogging a minimum of once week, Sundays.  So be sure to tune in!

Keep on Shooting!
